On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Trier Center for American Studies (TCAS) at Trier University and as a farewell to its founder Gerd Hurm, the CNA (Centre National de L’audiovisuel) is associated to the organization of this symposium bringing together international speakers. The conferences reflect Gerd Hurm’s relentless and committed scholarschip, teaching and outreach – looking back at his work and into the future.
The symposium will highlight the international, interdisciplinary and transatlantic approach of the TCAS as well as honor Gerd Hurm’s longstanding interest in photography, most evident in his work on Edward Steichen and the landmark exhibit The Family of Man.
