Under the Fig Trees is a Tunisian film directed by Erige Sehiri and released in 2022

It tells the story of young women who work harvesting figs in north-west Tunisia. Under the gaze of older workers and men, they flirt, tease and argue. Over the course of the day, the orchard becomes a theatre of emotions, where everyone’s hopes and dreams are played out.

The film won the Ecoprod Jury Prize during the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. It also won the Bayard d’or at the Festival international du film francophone de Namur and, in October 2022, the Tanit d’argent at the Journées cinématographiques de Carthage 2022 and the Prix Rêvolution at the Cinémamed festival in Brussels.

The screening will be followed by a talk by Peggy Hamann, the film’s scriptwriter.
