The Migrants’ Chronicles project is an educational game that teaches about Luxembourg emigration to the U.S. in 1892. Developed by the Cologne Game Lab (TH Köln) and supported by the University of Luxembourg and Carleton College for historical accuracy, the game aims to foster empathy for migrants and highlight the history of Luxembourg’s emigration.
The game is designed for 11-13-year-old students and history enthusiasts, and is set during the era when Ellis Island opened. Players can choose from three characters: a widow with children, a wealthy couple, or a young craftsman. They must make important decisions, such as what to pack and where to depart from, with each choice affecting their journey. The game, which is intended for use in schools and museums, immerses players in the time period of 1892 and promotes understanding of migration through role-playing.
