Michele Fabrizio Caliandro graduated from the University of Urbino and the University of Florence with a Bachelor in Biotechnology and a Master in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, respectively. During this studies, he investigated metabolism in tumour microenvironments. After a 6-month Erasmus period in Münster, Germany, he decided to pursue a PhD in biology, which he obtained in 2022, at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry in Münster, under the supervision of Prof. Eble. Here, he studied the regulation of integrin α7β1, a cell surface receptor, by its hinge-located Ca2+ binding site and its redox-sensitive cysteines. In November 2022, Michele joined the Neuroinflammation group at the LCSB as a Research Support Technician and is now focusing on investigating mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease using in vivo microscopy (two- and three-photon) and histology methods.
