In detail
Bora Tastan holds a PhD in molecular biology and genetics specialising in neuroscience from Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir, Turkey. His research focuses on understanding NLRP3 inflammasome / ASC speck regulation and their relationship to Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Bora seeks to gain further mechanistic insight into the neuropathogenic role of NLRP3-ASC inflammasome activation by employing his expertise in microglial biology and neuroinflammation. He has a comprehensive background in non-coding RNAs, cell-to-cell communication, especially extracellular vesicles, and biomarker research. An EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship gave him the opportunity to join the Neuroinflammation Group at the LCSB in 2023. Over the course of the fellowship, Bora has been working on the project “The NLRP3 Inflammasome in the Development and Progression of Tau Pathology”. This project aligns with his background in neuroinflammation and promises to shed light on critical mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases.
