On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Research Luxembourg returns with a fourth season of the video series Women [& Girls] in Science, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity and the Ministry of Research and Higher Education.

During this campaign, several videos are highlighting the stories of six women in science in Luxembourg, giving you a glimpse of what different science journeys can look like. Dr Silvia Colucci, manager of the Bioincubator at the House of Biohealth and Partnerships Officer at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), is among the 6 women featured in this series.

From passion to possibilities

Dr Colucci’s passion for science ignited early on and led her to pursue a PhD in Biochemistry at the Imperial College London. While she still carries a scientific mindset into her everyday life, her career path has had “unexpected and wonderful turns” since then. For Silvia, science has never been about fitting into a mold and her journey reflects exactly that.

Her years as a consultant in digital transformation and innovation for the pharmaceutical industry, financial services, and public sectors in the UK and Luxembourg, shaped what she calls her “career toolbox”. “I don’t fit in any box, and you don’t have to either. Being a scientist doesn’t mean limiting yourself to one role,” she explains.

Amidst the hectic world of innovation, Dr Colucci finds grounding in something completely different: antiques. “I love wandering through flea markets,” she adds. It is a passion she shares with her kids, showing them that life exists beyond the digital world.

A message for future scientists

To the next generation of women and girls interested in science, she offers a powerful message: “Let your passion and curiosity lead the way, and don’t be afraid to redefine what a career in science looks like.”
