Lucas H. Muniz da Conceição is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) at the University of Luxembourg.
Research
His research lies at the intersection of EU constitutional law, comparative public law, and democratic theory, with a particular focus on digital constitutional politics, digital sovereignty, and fundamental rights in the digital environment. His current project examines EU digital regulation in relation to democracy, media freedom, and instances of rule-of-law crisis, with particular attention to democratic erosion and populist contestation in EU member states.
Awards/Distinctions
Lucas received a full PhD Fellowship from Bocconi University (2021-2025), comprising a full tuition waiver and a merit-based stipend. He was awarded the School of Law Postgraduate Award at Birkbeck College for achieving the best GPA in the LL.M. in Constitutional Politics, Law, and Theory (2018) and also multiple merit-based scholarships, including the Itaú Scholarship Award (2017) and the Columbia University Summer Program Scholarship (2016).
Work experience
Between 2021 and 2025 he was a Research Fellow at the Bocconi Lab in European Studies (BLEST). Since 2023, he has served as Head Editor for Platform Governance at The Digital Constitutionalist blog. Also, in 2023 he was a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Heidelberg). Previously, he held a research fellowship at the Institute for Technology & Society in Rio de Janeiro (2021-2022).
Educational background
Dr Lucas Muniz da Conceição obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Federal University of Paraná, followed by an LL.M. with distinction from Birkbeck College, University of London. He then completed a PhD at Bocconi University, Milan, graduating cum laude in 2025.
