The Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) is pleased to highlight the publication of The Foundations of European Union Law (Ninth Edition), authored by Trevor Hartley (Emeritus Professor) and Professor Takis Tridimas.

This book offers one of the clearest and most comprehensive accounts of the European Union’s legal institutions and their functioning. Focusing on the constitutional, institutional, and administrative dimensions of EU law, it provides a framework for understanding how EU law is organised and operated.

Now in its ninth edition, the volume has been fully revised to reflect the latest legal and political developments shaping the EU. It places greater emphasis on key constitutional questions, provides a more extensive examination of the Union’s competences, and offers an expanded discussion of the relationship between EU and international law. The book also addresses the legal aspects of Brexit and its implications for the EU and the United Kingdom.

The book is available in print and digital formats from Oxford University Press.
