The General Court of the EU and the Digital Markets Act (DMA): First Takeaways

The event will be opened by the Director of the Luxembourg Centre for European Law, Prof. Takis Tridimas, the President of the General Court of the EU, Prof. Marc van der Woude and Honorary Judge Théa Harles Walch on behalf of the AECLJ.

Prof. Wolfgang Kirchhoff, President of the Association of European Competition Judges and Presiding Judge at the Cartel Senate of the Federal Court of Justice, Germany, will provide an overview of DMA and Competition Law from a German perspective. Drawing from his extensive expertise in competition, state aid, and public procurement law, he will explore how Germany’s experience aligns with the broader European framework.

Dr Niklas Brueggemann, case handler in Directorate J (Digital Platforms) of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP) will give a view from the European Commission on the DMA and Competition Law.

Following this, Judge Alexander Kornezov, Judge at the General Court of the European Union and President of Chamber, will present his insights on “The General Court of the EU and the DMA: First Takeaways.” With his deep background in EU procedural law and his role in adjudicating key cases at the General Court, he will discuss early judicial interpretations of the DMA and their implications for businesses and regulators.

This event is jointly organised with the Association of European Competition Law Judges (AECLJ) and the participation of the members of the General Court of the European Union.
