Study Programmes Master en Droit européen – Première année

Dual degree with the Renmin University of China

Spend one year in China!

The dual degree programme with Renmin University of China provides Uni.lu Master in Law students with the exceptional opportunity to pursue a Master in Chinese Law at one of Asia’s most prestigious law schools, located in Beijing. This programme combines academic excellence and international experience, preparing graduates for careers at the intersection of European and Chinese law.

Programme structure

Students selected for this dual degree complete their first year at the University of Luxembourg before spending one academic year at Renmin University, enrolled in the Master in Chinese Law programme (taught in English).

Upon successful completion in China, students return to Uni.lu to enter their second year in their pre-selected specialization. They write their Master’s thesis on a Chinese law topic and defend it at Uni.lu.

The total duration of studies is three years, culminating in the award of diplomas from both Renmin University and Uni.lu.

The language of instruction is English.

Key details:

  • No tuition fees at Renmin University; tuition fees are paid only to Uni.lu.
  • All first year students must select their second year specialization at Uni.lu before departure.

This programme is open to first year students in the Master en Droit Européen at Uni.lu who are committed to extending their studies to three years and focusing their research on Chinese law.

Application documents, including the completed “Dual Degree Application Renmin” form (available via Moodle once the selection period opens after the info session in mid-February), must be submitted by email to stephanie.anderson@uni.lu by the deadline.

Only complete applications will be evaluated; if documents are missing, applicants are granted a short additional period to submit them if notified.

Applicants must have strong academic records and clear motivation for study in China and Chinese law. All students must indicate their intended M2 specialization at Uni.lu prior to departure. Proficiency in English is required, as the programme at Renmin is taught in English. Candidates must also be prepared to adapt to the academic and cultural environment in Beijing.

All applications are reviewed for academic excellence, motivation, and readiness for international study. After internal selection at Uni.lu, nominated students receive instructions for formal application to Renmin University. Upon successful completion of both Uni.lu and Renmin academic requirements, including the second-year thesis in Chinese law, students are awarded degrees by both institutions.
