Dr. Beatrice PANATTONI

Beatrice Panattoni is a Postdoctoral researcher in criminal law, at the University of Luxembourg, FDEF, Department of Law.

Beatrice specialises on the convergence of criminal law and digital technologies, with a focus on the regulation and accountability of online platforms. Her work examines illegal content online, platform liability under the Digital Services Act (DSA), cybercrime, and AI-related offences. Her research investigates how models of responsibility for crimes in digital environments interact with regulatory theories and shape criminal policy, exploring how legal frameworks adapt to the challenges posed by automated systems, digital intermediaries, and emerging technologies.

She teaches corporate criminal law at the University of Verona, Italy.

Beatrice joined the Department of Law at the University of Luxembourg in July 2025 and is currently working under the chair in compliance and law enforcement (criminal law).
She previously held a postdoctoral position in criminal law at the University of Verona, Italy, contributing to projects on criminal digital investigations (data retention and lawful hacking), illegal online content, and platform liability. Her research has also included international stays at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Germany, as well as at the University of Washington in the United States.

Beatrice obtained her combined master-bachelor in Law and a PhD in Criminal Law at the University of Verona in Italy.
