Aikaterini PAPAZI

Aikaterini (Katerina) Papazi is a Research and Development Specialist in Cyber Policy, at the University of Luxembourg, FDEF, Department of Law.

Katerina specialises in the legal and regulatory dimensions of emerging technologies, with a focus on Cyber Governance, GDPR compliance, and algorithmic accountability. Her research examines the challenges of transparency and explainability in Black Box Algorithms. She explores how these regulatory challenges intersect with broader questions of EU Cyber Policy, including the transparency of automated systems in cybersecurity-critical contexts.

Katerina’s master thesis “Finding Transparency in Black Box Algorithms” was awarded a distinction (9/10) from Tilburg University.

Katerina joined the Department of Law at the University of Luxembourg in June 2024 as a Research and Development Specialist in AI and Criminal Law and is currently working under the Chair in Cyber Policy.

Previously, she held a Legal & Policy Research Internship at Europol, where she contributed to the agency’s digital policy strategy by analysing the AI Act and drafting policy recommendations for the European Parliament.

She also has experience in legal practice having worked as a lawyer in Greece from 2019-2022.

She holds an LL.B. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an LL.M. in Law and Technology from Tilburg University.
