After a successful inaugural doctoral seminar in economics held in June 2025 at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, professors from the University of Luxembourg’s Department of Law traveled to Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis to facilitate and participate in the first doctoral seminar in law.
Part of a wider West African inter-university cooperation, the partnership between the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade seeks to foster education, research and exchange among young doctoral students from Luxembourg Cooperation partner countries in West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Cap Vert).
From 13 to 20 November 2025, University of Luxembourg professors Luc Grynbaum, Thomas Mastrullo and Gilles Cuniberti, along with Prof. Alioune Sall from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, facilitated discussion and gave feedback on the work presented by the participating doctoral researchers. With a sharp focus on the concept of mobility in business and civil law, seminars on methodology in comparative law were also organised for the benefit of the students.
In addition to annual doctoral seminars in economics and law for the duration of the project (2025-2027), the agreement framework also provides for an annual workshop to highlight and foster local academic talent, alternating between economics and law.
