The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg is proud to announce that the lecture series “Launching Spacecraft: Regulatory Aspects” has been retained for funding by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under the RESCOM 20-1 call.

Piloted by professor Mahulena Hofmann, holder of the SES Chair in Space, SatCom and Media Law, together with Dr. PJ Blount, postdoctoral researcher at the FDEF, the lecture series is dedicated to bringing information on spaceport and launch law and policy to Luxembourg and to enhance local knowledge on launch service activities.

Without being exhaustive, this lecture series will cover topics related to the regulatory aspects of launching spacecraft including commercial and government spaceport options, launch service brokers, and insurance for launch activities. The series will be directed towards private sector actors in the space industry that want to see their innovations lift off, the space interested public of Luxembourg, students, and researchers. Launch regulation is foundational to space activities, and the lecture series aims to bring a better understanding of this area to the Luxembourg space ecosystem.

The lecture series is planned for the period of 15 September 2020 to 30 May 2021, pending the development of the Covid-19 situation. Lectures are envisaged to be open to the public and published to the Faculty’s events calendar.
