On 3 July, 2025, the University of Luxembourg hosted its 4th Conference in Sustainable Finance, bringing together top researchers, policymakers, and finance professionals to explore how finance can support the transition to sustainability. The program featured cutting-edge presentations on climate-related regulation, the financial impacts of natural disasters, and ESG governance.

A highlight of the event was the evening session at the Banque de Luxembourg, where Adair Morse (UC Berkeley) and Lint Barrage (ETH Zurich) delivered insightful keynote speeches on the climate transition’s implications for public finance. They showed that climate risks pose a sizeable threat to public finances and that innovation will have to play an important role in the fight against climate change, especially also for Europe.

The conference closed with a high-level panel featuring experts from the ESM – European Stability Mechanism, European Investment Bank (EIB). and academia. With its mix of rigorous research and policy relevance, the conference has shown that academic research in sustainable finance is as strong and vibrant as ever.
