On 18 September 2025, we were delighted to welcome Prof. Mathias Thoenig from HEC University of Lausanne.

As part of our lecture series on Cross-Border Labor Mobility, Prof. Thoenig delivered an insightful lecture on “Migration and Conflicts”.

This lecture offered an introduction to quantitative spatial models that analyse the two-way relationship between forced migration and armed conflict. Emphasis was placed on the methodological foundations required to construct, estimate, and simulate these models with policy relevance in mind. The course drew on a combination of published work and frontier research to highlight both established findings and promising directions for future inquiry in this area.

This lecture series is organised by Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) and the Doctoral School in Economics, Finance and Management at the University of Luxembourg, in the framework of the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR), Luxembourg-funded project ACROSS and financing scheme RESCOM.

An event supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) (PRIDE19/14302992) and (RESCOM/25/19439574)
