Lecture “Economics of Forced Displacement and Socioeconomic Integration” by Sandra Sequeira

  • Doctoral School in Economics, Finance and Management (DSEFM)
    22 November 2023

On 16 November, we were happy to welcome Prof. Sandra Sequeira from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

In the framework of our lecture series about Cross-Border Labor Mobility, Prof. Sequeira gave a detailed lecture about “Economics of Forced Displacement and Socioeconomic Integration”.

Prof. Sequeira unveiled insights on forced displacement’s impact, emphasizing uprootedness and unique family dynamics affecting children’s schooling in Mozambique. Forced displacement, as a mobility shock, shapes education and post-conflict shifts, while financial gains from refugee integration were nullified by climate shocks. Challenges include mental health and trust issues. Open questions explore managing displacement and social cohesion policies within Mozambique’s context.

This lecture series is organized by the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) & the University of Luxembourg, in the framework of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), Luxembourg funded project: #ACROSS.

Next lecture will feature Prof. Klaus Desmet on 19 December about “Identity, Culture and Politics”.

Registration is free but mandatory by email to: noemie.courtois@uni.lu
