Every two weeks during the summer season, we will be having a chat with some of the Student Award winners from the graduating class of 2020. We are beginning with Dylan Theis, Prix Luis y Antonio Portabella Excellence Académique Laureate who completed a Bachelor in Economics and Management at the FDEF.
Q: Can you tell us a little more about yourself?
A: My name is Dylan Theis, I am 23 years old and have Luxembourgish citizenship. I live in Luxembourg and graduated from the Bachelor in Economics and Management here at the University of Luxembourg.
Q: Besides this award, what was your greatest achievement as a student?
A: Besides the Portabella prize, my greatest achievement as a student was the excellent grades I got in high school.
Q: What is the most significant thing you have learned as a Bachelor in Economics and Management student?
A: Over the past years I have learned to use empirical data and observations to underline my arguments.
Q: Tell us about a teacher / mentor who made an impact on you or set you on your present path.
A: Pointing out one particular professor is hard since every single teacher had their impact on different learning fields. Nevertheless, I think that Professor Tatsiramos had a learning format which I particularly appreciated.
Q: Are you still studying at uni.lu? What are you doing now?
A: Yes, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Finance and Economics. I am very much looking forward to specialising in the field of Financial Economics starting in September.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: 5 years from now I will most probably have had my first experiences in the labour market, and I will hopefully work in a good working atmosphere.
Q: What is your ultimate career goal as you see it today?
A: Setting an ultimate career goal with the age of 23 is hard, yet I would be glad if at one point I could get the responsibility and the opportunity of leading a department of an administration or a company.
Q: Do you have any advice for future students?
A: While every student has their own way of thinking and studying, in my opinion being interested in what one studies is a core element to becoming academically fulfilled. Furthermore, cultivating friendships and helping each other makes studying easier and more fun.
