Following the signing of a Sponsorship Agreement in July 2022, Clifford Chance Luxembourg will continue to support the Moot Court programme at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg for three more years. The official 2022-2023 season kick-off is scheduled as a joint event with Clifford Chance and the moot court teams and coaches later this autumn.

The partnership, which began in 2015, combines financial contributions and various forms of mentoring and coaching. The financial support helps cover the cost of travel to competitions in Europe and beyond. At the same time, lawyers from Clifford Chance provide the teams with valuable training and feedback throughout the season through mock pleading sessions at Clifford Chance offices. Team members benefit from this exchange of ideas as Clifford Chance associates share their professional experience with the students.

Each year, the University of Luxembourg Moot Court teams participate in wide variety of competitions including the European Law Moot Court Competition, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court, the Concours Européen des Droits de l’Homme René Cassin, The Price Media Law Moot Court, the International Criminal Court Moot Court, and the European and International Tax Moot Court, among others. Students pursuing a Master in Law, in either their first or second year of study are encouraged to apply for a place on a team.

The 2021-2022 Moot Court season, although still impacted by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, saw a number of successes including a third-place win at the regional rounds of the Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court competition in February 2022, an award for the best Applicant Memorandum at the International and European Tax Moot Court competition and a qualification for oral pleading at the European Law Moot Court competition in March 2022 in Barcelona.

“We are proud to be able to offer our LL.M. students the opportunity to moot”, says Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance and Professor of Criminal Law, Katalin Ligeti. “Mooting develops an invaluable skillset that students will be able to draw on whether they choose to pass the bar or not. On behalf of the students, the professors, and the coaches, we are grateful that Clifford Chance recognises the benefit of our Moot Court programme and has agreed to continue their support.”

Katia Gauzès, Clifford Chance Office Managing Partner added, “We are very honoured and proud to continue supporting the Moot Court initiative. This partnership, which started back in 2015, is instrumental in assisting students with their law studies and helping them develop the necessary skills for their future legal careers in addition to their academic skill set. Our team of dedicated lawyers supporting the students in preparation for the competition is very much looking forward to this new season and I would like to thank them for their valuable commitment.”
