The INDIGO’s second hybrid type internal scientific workshop took place party virtually and partly in presence in Barcelona, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra on December 10, 2021.

This was the second scientific meeting where all the working groups presented their progress and research results which culminated in active discussions and preparation for the next steps.

After the warm welcoming words of the host –  Prof. Oriol Mir and Prof. Hofmann, Universitat Pompeu Fabra team – Pof. Oriol Mir, Dr. Migle Laukyte and Dr. Clara Velasco started with the presentation of Mid-term conclusion findings on the mapping and methodology (WP2). In addition, the researchers presented exciting results of their case studies.

Prof. Jens-Peter Schneider, Franka Enderlein and Kester Siegerist from the University of Freiburg presented the results of the investigation of the digitalization of the single market (for goods and non-financial services) (WP3) revealing the preliminary structure of WP3 Chapter of the final book.

Prof. Dirk Zetzsche from the University of Luxembourg continued with the findings on the reporting to financial regulators (WP4).

It was followed by outstanding presentation of case study result’s on “‘Automated decision-making’ in the EU Border Control” which included both factual analysis of existing automated decision-making measures and fundamental rights analysis presented by Prof. Franziska Boehm and Dr. Paulina Jo Pesch from Karlsruhe Institut für Technologie (WP5). Prof. Franziska Boehm and Dr. Paulina Jo Pesch presented also their working paper which is currently in progress.

Prof. Päivi Leino-Sandberg, Dr. Sam Wrigley and Mikka Hiltunen from the University of Helsinki presented their mid-term research results on political advertising (WP6). INDIGO team was also introduced with the Helsinki INDIGO team’s chapter abstract.

The last session was dedicated to the conclusions of WP 2-7 in regard to processing with WP8 and WP9 as well operational coordination between the involved working groups and the refinement of the path towards reaching project’s deliverables – working papers, policy papers and the final book.
