The Luxembourg office of the law firm Allen & Overy will partner with the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) of the University of Luxembourg and the association Les Amis de L’Université to provide a fellowship and internship opportunity to two high-potential Bachelor students within the Department of Law: one outgoing exchange student and one incoming exchange student who is a citizen of an EU Member State.

Eligible candidates will be nominated by the Study Programme Director and will attend an interview with a selection committee composed of representatives from both Allen & Overy and Les Amis de L’Université. The academic performance, motivation and character of the candidates will be considered in the selection process.

In addition to a scholarship grant of 5000€ per student, the participants will have the opportunity to take part in an internship programme at Allen & Overy’s office in Luxembourg. Moreover, fellowship students will benefit from additional mentoring and soft-skills development proposed by Allen & Overy such as resumé writing and job market advice, participation in networking events, and invitations to industry conferences and seminars.

Within the agreement framework, Allen & Overy will also extend the internship and mentoring opportunities to other high-achieving students in their third and final year of the Bachelor in Law. Candidates will be nominated by the Study Programme Director and will be invited to a hiring interview by Allen & Overy.

“We are proud that Allen & Overy has chosen to support our Bachelor in Law. The fellowship programme will provide many students with the opportunity to gain insight into the legal field and begin building their first professional networks, while the scholarship will encourage academic excellence, at the same time highlighting the importance of international mobility,” says Professor Katalin Ligeti, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance.

Patrick Mischo, Office Senior Partner of Allen & Overy in Luxembourg, comments: “We look forward to this partnership with the University of Luxembourg. We hope that our fellowship program will help students flourish and reach their full potential. We would like to pass on our passion for the legal profession and we encourage every student with an interest in law to apply and seize this great opportunity!”

Rector Emeritus Rolf Tarrach, president of the Amis de L’université adds: “The best way of contributing to a happy and meaningful life of future generations is to help them combine the acquisition of knowledge with its use in serving society. This is what Allen & Overy’s sterling programme is hereby doing by way of these combined fellow and internships.”

The first cohort of fellows will be selected at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year and they will begin the fellowship programme in September 2021.
