Prof Dr Hofmann receives the IISL 2020 Distinguished Service Award

We are pleased to announce the achievement of our colleague Prof Dr Mahulena Hofmann, who was bestowed the 2020 International Institute of Space Law (IISL) Distinguished Service Award. The IISL Board of Directors chose Prof Dr. Hofmann in recognition of her contributions to the development of space and telecommunications law, services to international community, capacity building efforts and work for the International Institute of Space Law.

The IISL insists on the fact that it is also of special significance that this Award comes when the Institute is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Recent work of Prof Dr Hofmann includes the publication of Space Resources Activities from the Perspective of Sustainability: Legal Aspects, co-written with Federico Bergamasco, in Global Sustainability (Cambridge University Press, 2020), Commentary on the Building Blocks for the Development of an International Framework for the Governance of Space Resources Activities, co-edited with Olavo de Bittencourt Neto, Tanja Masson-Zwaan and Dimitra Stefoudi (Eleven, 2020) , and Introduction to Space Law, with Tanja Masson-Zwaan as main co-author (Kluwer 2019).

Prof Dr Mahulena Hofmann is full professor of the SES Chair in Space, Satellite Communication and Media Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance since 2011; her main spheres of interest are both the legal regime of outer space, and the regulatory framework of international telecommunication. She participates in the preparation of the space legislation of Luxembourg and is regularly member of the Luxembourg delegation to the Legal Subcommittee of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS).
