On 9 December 2025, students from the Digital Transformation in Finance track of the Master in Finance and Economics programme participated in a hackathon organised in collaboration with J.P. Morgan, as part of their coursework with Professor Martina Fraschini. This initiative aimed to expose students to real-world challenges in the financial sector while fostering innovation, teamwork, and applied problem-solving.

Working in groups, students were tasked with designing a new financial service, adopting a broad perspective that integrated technological, regulatory, business, and social considerations. The hackathon was launched with a kick-off session led by J.P. Morgan professionals Shane Hurley, Alvaro Felgueroso Romero, and Brenda Colon, followed by two consultancy sessions during which students received structured feedback on their projects.

The initiative concluded with a final “shark tank” session hosted at J.P. Morgan’s premises, where each group presented its solution to a jury of industry experts composed of Ross Goodman, Sara Berujon, and Kathy Vancomerbeke. After pitching their ideas, students engaged in in-depth discussions with the jury, defending their proposals and responding to expert questions.

The projects addressed a diverse range of topics, including a compliance advisory service for fintech startups, an AI-based tool for personalised financial advice, and an application focused on senior care. The competition among teams was fierce, and following the jury’s deliberation, the winning team was the group that developed the senior care application (Massine Almoustaphaoui, Jenna Lim, Ehsan Nekouimehr, and Yuxin Wang). Their solution proposes an integrated platform that offers hospital companions, AI-supported health monitoring, insurance claim assistance, coordination with local communes, and a shared family dashboard. The project highlighted the potential to generate social value for the Luxembourgish community while remaining financially sustainable.
