The Doctoral School of Law (DSL) at the University of Luxembourg convened the Pescatore Prize committee on 13 November 2025 to review doctoral theses defended between 30 September 2024 and 1 October 2025.
Named in honour of Luxembourgish legal scholar and former judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union Pierre Pescatore, the prize was established in 2018 to recognise outstanding doctoral research. It is awarded each year to a DSL graduate whose thesis demonstrates strong academic merit, assessed based on innovation, the relevance of the research question, analytical and methodological quality, and the originality of the insights produced.
For this cycle, 10 candidates were eligible from a total of 21 doctoral defences. The committee, composed of Professors Mark Cole, Thomas Mastrullo, Eleftheria Neframi, and Elise Poillot, examined the eligible theses and selected this year’s laureate.
The 2024–2025 Pescatore Prize has been awarded to Dr Luisa-Sophie Künzel for her thesis, “FinTech in Fund Governance: Enhancing Investor Protection Through Technological Implementations in Fund Governance”. The committee noted the precision of her analysis and the relevance of her work to current developments in financial regulation and technology.
The Doctoral School of Law congratulates Luisa-Sophie Künzel on receiving the Pescatore Prize.
