Our student team achieved a remarkable result in the 2025 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge, ranking 50th out of 2,695 teams globally – placing them in the top 2% worldwide – and 12th in Europe.
The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge offers students a direct introduction to real-world investing. Teams of three to five students, supported by a faculty advisor, compete against leading universities worldwide by defining market assumptions, developing return-driven equity strategies, and executing trades through the Bloomberg Terminal within a closed trading environment. Performance is evaluated using time-weighted relative return against the Bloomberg World Large, Mid & Small Cap Price Return Index (WLS Index).
The University of Luxembourg team – Hesam Abbasi (Team Captain), Bita Sabahi, Ahmad Fadavi and Fatemeh Kafimousavi Najafabadi – supported by Doctoral Researcher Ali Atabaigialami, distinguished themselves through a systematic and data-driven approach. Over the four-week competition, they implemented a multi-stage screening methodology, beginning with high-beta securities (β between 2 and 6). They further incorporated risk-adjusted performance criteria, evaluating volatility patterns, drawdown behaviour, relative strength across comparable assets, momentum confirmation and early price-action signals that indicated potential breakout behaviour. Final portfolio selections were refined using detailed chart analysis and price-action assessment to identify high-conviction investment opportunities.
Their disciplined strategy resulted in a final profit of +USD 64,395.
The Faculty congratulates the team on this achievement.
