How to choose your host university
Take the following things into consideration when choosing your host University:
-
Your academic advancement
Does the University offer the courses you need for your academic advancement?
Consider checking if they align with your academic goals. -
Study points
Does the University offer enough courses that fit into your programme?
At least 30 ECTS are required to meet the academic requirements. -
Language of instruction
Most universities abroad offer courses held in English, however, the number of classes in English might be limited and exchange students might be required to also participate in courses held in the native language. Make sure that your language skills in the host country’s language are adequate. Most universities accept a confirmation letter from your study programme that the studies are both in English and in French (contact stephanie.anderson@uni.lu).
But more and more universities require an official language certificate, be prepared to spend the money and to take the official test.
-
Summer or winter semester?
When is a good time to leave?
Pay attention to academic calendars of potential host universities – there might be difficulties with semester times. In spring, many European universities start their semester early in January. But you still have to do your exams at the University of Luxembourg. Some universities do not accept late arrival at all, some will allow late arrival but only within a certain time range.
We strongly advise not to leave in the summer semester if the semester overlaps more than 2 weeks.
