The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Julia Sinnig as an Assistant Professor in Commercial Law. Dr. Sinnig, who previously served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ADA Chair in Financial Law (Inclusive Finance), brings a wealth of expertise in commercial law, financial regulation, tax law and corporate law.
Dr. Sinnig joined the University of Luxembourg in 2013 as a Student Assistant, where she supported research activities at the Chair in Public Law, International and European Law, and Media Law, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mark D. Cole. Her early work focused on different fields of European law as well as Luxembourg law. In 2016, she advanced to the role of Research Assistant and PhD Candidate, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Werner Haslehner, successfully obtaining her Doctoral degree in 2020 specialising in taxation, digitalisation, and data protection law.
Following the completion of her PhD, Dr. Sinnig continued her work as a Project Manager for ADA microfinance Luxembourg, a development NGO supported by the Luxembourg government with a particular focus on enhancing financial inclusion and financial education in countries targeted by Luxembourg’s development aid. A year later, she transitioned into the role of Postdoctoral Researcher, continuing her impactful work with the ADA Chair in Financial Law (inclusive finance), under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dirk Andreas Zetzsche.
Dr. Sinnig’s research focuses on various aspects of commercial law, with a particular emphasis on Luxembourg and European financial law and regulation, corporate law, taxation of investment funds, inclusive and sustainable finance, as well as interdisciplinary research in the field of financial technologies. Her work explores the regulation and taxation of Luxembourg investment funds, the EU legal framework regarding sustainable finance, the challenges and chances of crypto and digitalization more broadly in the field of financial law and core matters of Luxembourg corporate law.
Upon her appointment as Assistant Professor, Dr. Sinnig expressed her excitement about continuing her journey at the University of Luxembourg, saying,
