Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic is expected to create a wave of non-performing loans (NPLs). Policy-makers are discussing the use of asset management companies to manage NPLs, yet a number of legal and regulatory provisions currently in force might erect barriers to the successful use of such vehicles. The speakers of this Web Seminar, who are members of the Expert Group advising the European Parliament on bank resolution matters, have recently co-authored a report for the European Parliament analysing pros and cons of asset management companies’ dealing with NPLs. The speakers will present, drawing on their report, advantages and disadvantages of asset managers’ involvement in NPL restructuring and propose policy considerations aiming at an effective dealing with these assets.
