International conference organised within the framework of the ‘Gilbert Trausch’ research project at the University of Luxembourg.
The aim of this conference is to study the material and intellectual conditions of the historian’s work by proposing an anthropological approach to historical practices. The conference takes place within the framework of a research project at the University of Luxembourg focussing on the work and research library of the Luxembourgish historian Gilbert Trausch.

« Puisque nous donnons un nom à tout ce que nous savons exister dans l’univers, ce nom peut facilement devenir une métaphore pour autre chose. Une bibliothèque, c’est beaucoup de choses, et peut-être une façon de comprendre ces identités passe par le biais de métaphores. Sous le nom d’archive, mémoire, labyrinthe, monde, la bibliothèque est (ou peut devenir) un espace d’exploration pour les curieux. »
Alberto Manguel est un citoyen canadien né à Buenos Aires. Il est l’auteur de cinq romans et de plusieurs essais, parmi lesquels Le Dictionnaire des lieux imaginaires (avec Gianni Guadalupi) ; Une Histoire de la lecture et La Bibliothèque la nuit. En France, Alberto Manguel est, entre autres, le lauréat du prix Médicis essai et du prix France Culture. Manguel a été directeur de la Bibliothèque nationale d’Argentine de 2015 à 2018. Il dirige actuellement le centre de recherche sur l’histoire de la lecture (CEHL) à Lisbonne.
