Emilia Sánchez González is a PhD Candidate in the FNR-funded research and transmedia project “Tracing the Legacy of Edward Steichen: A Glocal Approach to the International Reception and National Heritagisation of the “Family of Man” Exhibition,” conducted between the University of Luxembourg’s Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) and the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel (CNA). Her research combines approaches from visual studies, decolonial studies, public history, and transnational media history to investigate the itinerancy of the landmark show during its global tour (1955-1963).
She holds an M.A. from the UNESCO program in World Heritage Studies at BTU-Cottbus and is trained in social museology by the SAWA Museum Studies Program. She has worked internationally at universities, museums, and NGOs, notably at the Getty Museum and project-based for the U.S. National Committee of ICOMOS. Her research interests include heritage transmission and safeguarding, arts & culture for social impact, postcolonialism and anti-colonialism, transpacific migration, and memory studies.
