Welcome to Ezzeldin Hajjaj, the C²DH Scholar at Risk Fellow for 2025

Ezzeldin Hajjaj will join the C²DH in December 2025.

Ezzeldin Hajjaj is an archaeologist and cultural heritage specialist from Sudan. His thesis, “Museums as an Effective Agent of Peace and Reconciliation in Sudan” (2022), earned him a Master’s degree in Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage from the University of Sharjah, UAE. In addition, Hajjaj holds a Diploma in Archaeology and Sustainable Development from the Haryana Institute of Public Administration in India and is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Museum and Critical Heritage Studies at the Africa Institute for Global Studies.

He has previously worked as a field director for several archaeological and World Heritage projects with the Department of Archaeology at the University of Khartoum and the National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums (Sudan). He has also participated in multiple international archaeological missions in Sudan, collaborating with teams from the University of Naples, the King Charles University Institute in Prague, and University College London.

Hajjaj is the 2024–2025 mentee in the World Heritage Centre Mentorship Programme for African World Heritage Professionals. This year, he joins the University of Luxembourg and the Center for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) as the Scholar at Risk Fellow for 2025.

During his stay at the C²DH, he will spend several weeks contributing to discussions on decolonial museum practices and innovative approaches to historical engagement for museums and other cultural institutions.
