Sarah Maya Vercruysse is a post-doctoral researcher in the ‘History and Migrations’ Chair.

Research

Sarah Maya Vercruysse’s main research focus centers on the forced migration of population groups during the Second World War. As part of the WARLUX project (2020-2024) on Luxembourgish “forced conscripts” during WWII, her doctoral dissertation examined the repercussions of draft evasion and desertion on Luxembourgish families during the war, including their forced resettlement. She has also published multiple articles on the subject. Her master’s thesis explored the experiences of Belgian political prisoners deported to the concentration camp Mittelbau-Dora.

Work experience

Sarah Maya Vercruysse earned her PhD in History at the University of Luxembourg/C²DH in 2025. Beforehand she worked as a Research Assistant at the KU Leuven (2018-2019) and at the Museum for Archaeology and Ethnology at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver (2019-2020).

Educational background

Sarah Maya Vercruysse earned her PhD in History from the University of Luxembourg (2025) and a master’s degree in History from the KU Leuven. (2013). During that year she was also an exchange student at the Universität Erfurt in Germany.
