Laboratory experiences
Students of the Bachelor in Psychology benefit from a close link between teaching and state-of-the-art research. For example, in their experimental training, while working on their Bachelor’s thesis, or maybe also as student assistants – BAP students can gather substantial experience in the different laboratory facilities of the faculty. All have an excellent record in basic and applied research in psychology.
Media and Experimental Laboratory (MEXLAB)
Experimental research in media psychology
MEXLAB provides a scientific environment for media and
experimental research aimed at furthering both research
and teaching at the University of Luxembourg. The
MEXLAB is well suited to cover a broad range of current
experimental topics in media psychology. It also allows for
testing of media-related topics in developmental psychology and cognitive psychology. Within these contexts, for
example, MEXLAB-based experiments focus on the effects
of violent or prosocial video games on cognition, emotion
and behavior in social interactions.
MEXLAB provides students with a wide range of “hands-on” learning experiences for designing, conducting, and
analysing experiments in psychology. Students can also use the lab equipment to collect data for their own research projects (i.e., thesis papers).

Clinical Psychophysiology Laboratory (CLIPSLAB)
Improving our knowledge of bio-behavioural mechanisms
CLIPSLAB is designed for the experimental investigation of psychophysiological processes that are important for health and the development or maintenance of chronic physical conditions and mental disorders, such as cardiovascular disorders, obesity and disordered eating, eating disorders and anxiety disorders. The aim of this research is to develop strategies for better intervention and prevention by improving our knowledge of bio-behavioural mechanisms and nature-nurture interactions.
Research in CLIPSLAB is carried out by staff and students, under appropriate supervision by experienced staff.

Laboratory of Psychobiology and Neurophysiology (LPN)
The impact of stress
A main research interest in the LPN is the impact of stress and altered stress hormone levels (adrenocortical reactivity)
on the development and maintenance of enhanced pain sensitivity. In this laboratory psychophysical/psychophysiological experimental and clinical studies in humans as well as neurobiological and behavioral experiments in animal models are performed. Other psychophysiological research activities are dedicated to endogenous pain control systems and their dependence on psychological processes like classical conditioning, expectancies and placebo-related effects.

Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory (CNS)
Better understanding cognitive processes
Research in the CNS Laboratory aims at better understanding cognitive processes such as number processing, working memory and attention. The researchers investigate the behaviour and neural mechanisms underlying these processes from childhood over adolescence to adulthood and old age.
They use computer-based behavioral tests as well as Electro-Encephalography (EEG) and Event-Related
Potentials (ERPs) to pursue their research goals.
More punctually they also run functional Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (fMRI) studies in collaboration with the Maastricht Brain Imaging Centre.

Psychological Assessment and Testing Laboratory (PAT-LAB)
Get to know the tools used in psychological assessment
The PAT-LAB provides a collection of psychological assessment and testing tools on a variety of psychological domains such as learning disabilities, mood, anxiety and personality disorders, quality of life, sport, human resources, work environment, and traffic. The tools are suitable for children, adolescents, adults, and elderly people and are available in German, French, English, or Luxembourgish. The PAT-LAB provides students with an opportunity to get to know the tools used in psychological assessment.
