Prof. Andreas Irmen recently moderated a panel on revitalising economic growth at the 2019 Horasis Global Meeting in Cascais, Portugal, dedicated to the topic of “catalysing the benefits of globalisation”.

Panellists included Sergei Guriev (Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, UK), Vesna Crnojevic-Bengin (Professor at the University of Novi Sad and Assistant Director of BioSense Institute, Serbia), Tunde Kehinde (Co-founder of Lidya, Nigeria), and Adriaan Ligtenberg (Founder and Chairman of SparkHealth, The Netherlands).

The panel started from the assessment of the World Bank and the IMF according to which global economic growth will slow down. Panellists discussed the contribution of current economic and political uncertainties and emphasized the difficulties of emerging economies to cope with the situation. Moreover, they analysed the growth effects that new technological advances in agriculture, medicine, and finance are likely to bring about in the medium run.

Horasis is a global visions community dedicated to “inspiring the future”. At its meetings participating members explore, define, and develop interdisciplinary solutions to the most critical challenges facing corporations today. Among the participants are CEOs of the world’s most respected corporations, key leaders from emerging markets, and public figures including heads of government. The Horasis Global Meeting in Cascais attracted over 800 world leaders from over 70 countries.
