The Barreau de Luxembourg and the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance on 17 September signed a partnership for the awarding of graduation prizes for Bachelor and Master students in law.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both parties during the official welcome of the Master of Laws students for the academic year 2018-2019. The agreement was signed by newly appointed Bâtonnier François Kremer with his predecessor, François Prum, also in attendance. The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance was represented by the Dean, Prof. Katalin Ligeti, and the head of the Research Unit in Law, Prof. Elise Poillot.

Starting the 2018 Graduation Week, the Barreau will award prizes to the best student of the Bachelor en Droit as well as the best student overall of all six LL.M. specialisations. The prize winners will be established by their grade point average.

The “Prix du barreau pour le/la major de promotion de Bachelor” and the “Prix du barreau pour le/la major de promotion de Master” will be awarded for the first time during the Faculty’s Bachelor and Master graduation ceremonies on 12 December 2018.

The new MoU does not, however, mark the first collaboration between the Barreau de Luxembourg and the FDEF. The Barreau, for example, supports the “Clinique en droit”, a consumer law clinic organised as part of the Master in European Private Law. Members of the Barreau provide expertise and help coach students to become real-life legal advisers.

The new prizes join a roster of existing awards attributed to FDEF graduates, including, among others, the Economist Club Luxembourg prize for the best student of the Master in Economics and Finance, the Azizi Award for the best student of the Master en Droit et Contentieux de l’UE, and prizes awarded by Pictet and the Bank of China to the best students in Wealth Management, and Banking and Finance, respectively.
