A team of researchers from the Centre for Research in Economics and Management (CREA) spoke at a recent workshop on the effective of public policies in the development of sub-Saharan Africa hosted in Cameroon.

Prof. Arnaud Bourgain together with professors Luisito Bertinelli and Skerdilajda Zanaj spoke at the colloquium that was organised by the University of Dschang in association with CREA, the “Association Tiers-Monde” and the “Laboratoire International Associé du CNRS. Inégalités, Développement et Equilibres Politiques”.

They CREA team presented papers analysing the effective corporate tax rates in sub-Saharan countries as well as the effect of tax competition in extractive industries in developing countries. Some of this research was carried out in cooperation with the “Université des Sciences sociales et de Gestion” in Bamako, Mali, as part of a partnership with the University of Luxembourg.

The conference, which was hosted on 29 and 30 January, aimed at showing how public policy can more effectively be utilised in the development of sub-Saharan countries by presenting case studies and bringing together academics and policy makers to open up avenues for the future.

An interview with the local Dean, student testimonials and a workshop recap are available on the University of Dschang’s website.
