The Parallel Computing and Optimization Group (PCOG) led by Prof. Pascal Bouvry at the University of Luxembourg has recently been awarded a three-year grant from the US Navy Office of Naval Research (ONR) to pursue its research activities in the field of drone swarms. An official visit was organised on 16 October 2018 at the University of Luxembourg.
The Parallel Computing and Optimization Group (PCOG) has already made significant progress in three distinct areas of swarm mobility – chaos theory, clustering techniques and nature-inspired approaches. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) funded project will enable to combine these methods to optimise the behaviour of autonomous vehicles in a completely distributed way.
Dr. Grégoire Danoy and Prof. Pascal Bouvry from the PCOG welcomed Dr. AFRL, Science Director at ONR, Dr. Stéphane Pallage, Science Director for Cyber Security and Lt. Col. Jens Kreisel, International Programme Officer at the Air Force Research Laboratory (Paul Heuschling) to visit the university premises. Then, together with Prof. Ayodeji Coker, Prof. Predrag Milojkovic and Prof. Shad Reed, they discussed potential collaboration opportunities.
