Prof. Nicolas Navet has been recently appointed new Head of the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at the University of Luxembourg.
Prof. Nicolas Navet shares with us his motivation and future challenges.
What has motivated you to take this new position?
« I see one of the main roles of a department head as to contribute to create the best possible working environments for the members of the department, and this is something really meaningful and motivating for me. Also, I was course director of a Bachelor programme, then deputy head of the department, and, after 11 years at the University, I was interested by this new position, which will allow me to engage in new tasks and responsibilities, and develop new skills. »
What will you be your main challenges?
« The next couple of years will be pivotal for the department with several key tasks ahead, including establishing the strategy up to 2030, new recruitments, the evaluation of the academic staff, the research evaluation of the department, the accreditation of the Bachelor in Computer Science, etc. But I am confident that the department has the internal resources to turn those challenges into opportunities, and come out stronger to fulfil its missions in teaching, research and outreach activities. »
