On the occasion of the European High-Performance Computing (EuroHPC) summit which took place in Göteborg from 21-23 March 2023, the University of Luxembourg presented the European Master for High Performance Computing (EUMaster4HPC). It was was a great opportunity to exchange about the latest achievements and opportunities in the European supercomputing ecosystem.
The EuroHPC summit is an annual event gathering key European HPC stakeholders from providers to scientific and industrial users, to policy makers. It brings together the brightest minds in supercomputing to discuss and share their discoveries. It is a vital platform for researchers, scientists, and industry experts to exchange ideas, discuss and reflect on the current and future challenges in HPC and explore new avenues of collaboration. This year, more than 600 participants attended the 2023 edition.
The University of Luxembourg was represented by Prof. Pascal Bouvry, Special Advisor to the Rector in matters of HPC, who shared his view about education in HPC while Eleni Liakidou, Project manager of the EUMaster4HPC, presented the European Master. The active participation of the first cohort of EUMaster4HPC students was an added value to the summit. Their enthusiastic participation in a challenge of code parallelisation and optimisation on EuroHPC supercomputers, having access to MeluXina, the Luxembourg’s national supercomputer, was an important experience as part of the training of the EUMaster4HPC.
The EUMaster4HPC is a European Project, financed by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, to build up advanced trainings, skills, and education about HPC in Luxembourg and beyond its borders across Europe. The HPC team at the University of Luxembourg consists of experts in HPC and related fields, who have been working tirelessly to achieve breakthroughs in this area. This work has also been done in collaboration with Luxinnovation and Luxprovide, as part of the HPC National Competence Centre of the EuroCC project.
The University of Luxembourg team was excited to be part of this prestigious event and learned from and engaged with other experts in the field. They made valuable connections, gained new insights, and contributed to the advancement of HPC education and training.
