In space applications, design efforts have always been focused on system reliability, in particular due to the high costs and risks linked to the mission environment. However, with the advent of the “New Space” approach, the placement into orbit of satellites has become more affordable thanks to the use of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) components and an increase in launch frequency. These improvements have generated a new way of considering risks in space activities: focus is now placed on cybersecurity.

This essential field is quite new in the space domain, but is quickly gaining in interest because of the central role space systems play in terrestrial activities (e.g. telecommunication) and the Maison de la Biomédecine II. Therefore, in the context of the critical consequences that could be born out of a cyberattack, the Luxembourgish Standards Body (OLN) is organizing a Workshop on “Technical Standardization in Space and Cybersecurity“, on Tuesday, June 27National Policy on Aerospace Technical Standardization (2021-2025) 2023, from 9:00am to 2:00pm, at the th, in Belval.

This event will have the purpose to highlight the European Space Agency’s (ESA) latest standardization and technical developments, as well as to present the ongoing standardization activities in the technical committee SES (Satellite Earth Stations and Systems) within ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). These different contributions will showcase the current threats and related solutions to efficiently address these new challenges.

Additionally, this event will be an opportunity to present the updated version of the National Standards Analysis “Aerospace Sector” and to share the point of view of the Luxembourgish space stakeholders regarding the main topic during a round table.
