As one of the partners of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Thematic Network for Modern Geodetic Space Techniques for Global Change Monitoring, the University of Luxembourg hosted the second workshop of the thematic network on Campus Kirchberg. Almost 30 participants from China, Germany and Luxembourg attended the event from 24 to 28 July 2018 to exchange the state-of-the-art research within the network. Particularly, most of the participants were young scientists including Master students from China and Germany.
Welcomed by Prof. Tonie van Dam and her team from the Research Unit in Engineering Sciences (RUES) at the University of Luxembourg, the workshop has covered a variety of the Geodesy subject towards “Global Change Monitoring” with 30 presentations focusing on 5 main topics:
- Satellite Altimetry, Gravimetry & Enabling technologies
- Positioning, Navigation & Reference Systems
- Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry
- Applications for Global Change Monitoring
- Gravity field modelling and Height System
During the workshop, a fruitful discussion and exchange of ideas among the participants took place. In addition, two social events of visiting Campus Belval and Vianden were organized. As said by Dr. Qiang Chen, all participants were greatly impressed by Campus Belval as well as Luxembourg. The planned activity of the thematic network will be the Summer School to be held in China next year.
About the Thematic Network
With the support of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst DAAD under the program “Strategic Partnership and Thematic Networks”, the thematic network is coordinated by the University of Stuttgart aiming to promote exchange of scientists and students among the partners over the topic “Modern Geodetic Space Techniques for Global Change Monitoring”.
