Today’s complex scientific questions require, to an increasing degree, an interdisciplinary approach. As a matter of fact, large societal challenges such as migration, digitalization, health or climate change cannot be addressed within a single discipline. This first workshop on Interdisciplinarity at the University of Luxembourg aims at a stocktaking of existing interdisciplinary research in our University, learning from interdisciplinary experiences shared by invited renowned keynote speakers, and stimulating the generation of new ideas for interdisciplinary projects at the University of Luxembourg.
Keynote lectures by international experts will address:
In addition to this, and several presentations by interdisciplinary research projects at the University of Luxembourg, three working sessions will focus on major global challenges related to the Digitalization of Society and Data-driven Interdisciplinarity, Diminishing Resources and Growing Utilization, and Globalization and Socio-Environmental Systems.
The expected outcome of the workshop is to overcome boundaries between disciplines and sectors, to promote new interdisciplinary projects. Participants will deepen their understanding on the development of the interdisciplinary practices and the structuring of an interdisciplinary team.
On the second day, the workshop will be followed by the launch of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of the University of Luxembourg, which aims at funding bold interdisciplinarity research and being a forum for sharing knowledge and experience. The four funding instruments of the IAS will be presented, together with a call for proposals. The whole Uni.lu community is welcomed to participate and contribute to the success of this event.
