The aim of the roundtable is to discuss the recent groundbreaking judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU, as well as pending cases, in the filed of external relations, regarding the relationship between EU and international law (Western Sahara Campaign UK, C-266/16), the autonomy of the EU’s legal order (Achmea, C-284/16), or the choice of legal bases and the position of the Union in international bodies (COTIF, C-600/14; MPA Antarctic, C-626/15 and C-659/16; Agreement with Kazakhstan, C-244/17). Those cases are significant, not only because they shed light on controversial legal questions, but also because they may impact on politically sensitive issues, such as the new trade and investment agreements (e.g. CETA), the role of the European Parliament or the Brexit negotiations.
