In 2018, for its special 10th edition, the Benelux Mathematical Olympiad took place in Mersch.
The University of Luxembourg organized the complementary activities:
The mathematical puzzle collector Marcel Gillen kindly brought more than 20 items of his fabulous collection to challenge the bright students… they appreciated the apparent simplicity and the elegance of the puzzles and took the challenge!
The visiting guest professor Gerard van der Geer gave a very lively talk about mathematics, entertaining his public with funny anecdotes.
The associate professor Antonella Perucca met the participants and answered to a lot of questions about research, career and the life of a mathematician.
She also assigned prizes to the two best female participants Marie Peeters (in the picture, gold medal) and Anna Mustata (bronze medal): these prizes were in name of European Women in Mathematics (EWM) and Women in Numbers Benelux (WiNBx).
For the list of problems of the competition and the detailed scores, see the official page.
