Are you aware of the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force in May 2018? A detailed understanding of privacy and personal data regulations is essential for anybody handling personal data within their projects, and if you want to be more confident in the management of the legal, regulatory and information security aspects of data protection then this talk is relevant to you. In it we will look at the main upcoming changes of the GDPR, cover how you can build personal data management into your projects from the beginning and how the University of Luxembourg is planning to implement for such compliancy.
The talk will explain the key changes with the GDPR as well as the 7 steps to be prepared for compliancy. The concept of personal data will be detailed in relation to legal principles and the field of research. The talk will provide a case study relevant to SnT research projects and will place particular emphasis on the role of SnT with regard to data protection, and its obligations in terms of data protection and information security will be addressed.
It will cover the main disposals of the Luxembourg Draft Bill about Research and Data Protection. The talk will make clear the role of the Data Protection Officer and the Chief Information Security Officer. The talk will conclude by going through the key elements of the Univeristy action plan for GDPR compliancy.
Regulations require that high-level data protection is built into the development of business processes for products and services from the start and implemented throughout: given the complexity of the issue and the level of possible sanctions it has never been more important to be prepared.
Sandrine Munoz is the Data Protection Officer of the University since September 2017 and in charge of Personal Data Protection at the University of Luxembourg since June 2016. She holds a PhD in European and French law focused on internet issues, from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (South of France).
Christian Hutter is Chief Information Security Officer at the University since 2017.
