It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague, Adrian De Silva on Tuesday, 13 June 2023. Adrian courageously fought against illness with unwavering determination. It is an immeasurable loss for our Faculty, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
Adrian was a sociologist and worked as a Research Scientist at the Institute for Social Research and Interventions. He joined the University of Luxembourg in 2016, having previously held different positions at several German universities. Adrian was a popular teacher in the Bachelor en science sociales et éducatives and an internationally renowned expert in sociological gender studies. His work on processes of minoritising unusual genders has been pathbreaking, and his dissertation “Negotiating the Borders of the Gender Regime: Developments and Debates on Trans(sexuality) in the Federal Republic of Germany” is a classic in its field.
Beyond Adrian’s professional achievements, he was a warm-hearted individual. He leaves many friends across the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the University where he was loved by many and esteemed by all.
In honor of Adrian’s memory, a book of condolences will be available at the reception desk of the Maison des Sciences Humaines until Thursday evening.
