17 researchers from UniGR-Center for Border Studies are participating in the Association for Borderlands Studies World Conference hosted by the University of Vienna (AT) and the Central European University in Budapest (HU). “Border Making and its Consequences” is the central theme of the conference. The UniGR-Center for Border Studies is involved as a partner and covers the sections on Southwestern Europe.

The delegation from the UniGR-Center for Border Studies which includes researchers from the University of Luxembourg, the Saarland University, the University of Trier, the University of Lorraine and the University of Liège, organises seven panel discussions focusing on cultural and social studies. The topics cover migration, cross-border mobility, labor market, regional development, and border theory. During the “What is Border Studies?”-panel the UniGR-Center for Border Studies aims at initiating debates about the emerging multidisciplinary research on Border Studies itself.

Furthermore, Saarland University collaborates with the University of Vienna and received a grant from the Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung for „Border-Making and its Consequences: A Global Overview,“ a multi-media project which will make selected presentations held at the the World Conference available for digital learning activities.

The UniGR-Center for Border Studies  and the Association for Borderland Studies partnered already in 2016 for the European Conference in Border Studies, which was organized by the University of Luxembourg in close collaboration with the UniGR partner universities.

The collaboration between the UniGR-Center for Border Studies and the World Conference 2018 strengthens the UniGR-CBS’s international networks. The participation is co-financed by the Interreg V A Greater Region programme.
