The overall objective of the contract is to work for FRANET – Data collection and research services on fundamental rights – for the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.
Your Role
The research assistant will work within the research project “FRANET” in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning. Under the supervision of Professor Birte Nienaber, he/she will:
- Follow the latest developments in the national and European fundamental rights policies;
- Contribute to all research related tasks within the FRANET project of various sizes/formats;
- Draft and finalise reports in English and in French:
- carry out research individually/with a team following specific guidelines and templates,
- Work with a team or researchers.
- Draft and finalise the Annual Report on Fundamental Rights in Luxembourg – review and analyse the latest national policies and activities in the field of fundamental rights; collaborate with national partners and experts;
- Draft and finalise FRANET studies; collect and analyse data on the given topic; conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders; desk research on policies, practices and legislation; provide feedback on the Synthesis Report of the study; draft and finalise the summary or the study in full in French upon request;
- Analyse current national policies by working on primary and secondary data in Luxembourg and the EU;
- Supervise the work of (a) student assistant(s);
- Carry out administrative tasks.
Your Profile
- Master (or equivalent) in, Law, Public and Social Policy or related field
- Experienced in the field of human rights
- Good communication skills and excellent drafting and reporting skills
- Ability to establish contacts at national and international level
- Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
- Knowledge in data collection, tables and graphs creation and reporting
- Experienced in the use of common computer software (Microsoft Office)
As the candidate will have to work within a multilingual context, he/she must be fluent in English and French (written and spoken). Knowledge of German and/or Luxembourgish will be considered an advantage.

- The research specialist will work in an international environment at the University of Luxembourg and will be a member of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning and of the team of the European Migration Network National Contact Point Luxembourg.
- He/She will have the opportunity to work with the EU agency on most recent EU policies as well as to work closely with the national stakeholders in Luxembourg.
- Depending on the requests form the EU Agency contract upgrade is possible.
