Project outline
The overall objective of the contract is to support and contribute to the H2020 project CEASEVAL (http://ceaseval.eu/), which deals with the evaluation of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS).
The project is coordinated by the Technical University of Chemnitz. The University of Luxembourg is one of the 14 partner institutions.
Your Role
The research associate will work on the H2020 research project CEASEVAL based in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning.
Under the supervision of Professor Birte Nienaber, he/she will:
- Based on fieldwork he/she will conduct in Luxembourg, the post holder will be in charge with the writing up of a report exploring the multilevel asylum governance in Luxembourg;
- Conduct qualitative semi-structured and in-depth interviews in Luxembourg with key informants at local, regional and national level to analyse: 1) the processes that lead to the current configuration of the Luxemburgish national asylum reception system, and; 2) how local goals and programmes in the field of asylum reception interact with national and EU objectives and programmes;
- Conduct research for the local project aspects and support the development of other work packages;
- Support the development of policy reform scenarios;
- Support the coordination of the H2020 project;
- Participate in consortium meetings;
- Pro-actively support the dissemination and communication strategies of the project; and
- Publish academic articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Your Profile
- PhD (or equivalent) in Geography, Migration Studies, Sociology or any other related field;
- Extensive experience in conducting in-depth qualitative interviews with institutional actors (policy-makers, public officials leaders of NGOs);
- Knowledge of the field of refugee studies, multilevel governance and/or border studies;
- Ability to establish contacts at local, regional and national level;
- Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team;
- Excellent capacities in the use of common computer software (Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel); and
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English and excellent spoken skills in French.
As the candidate will have to work in a multilingual context, he/she must be fluent in English (written and spoken) and French (spoken). Knowledge of German or Luxembourgish will be considered as an advantage.
