The University of Luxembourg is hosting the IMISCOE 2021 online conference which will take place from July 7-9, 2021
About the conference
For this year’s IMISCOE conference, already about 1500 registrations are confirmed, which makes this conference one of the largest, if not the largest, conference in the field of migration research ever.
The 18th IMISCOE Conference is co-organised by the University of Luxembourg and the IMISCOE Network. It will take place online and is hosted by the University of Luxembourg. The huge amount of participants clearly shows the high importance of the topic of migration and integration globally but it also demonstrates how important migration and integration are for Luxembourg – especially in pandemic times.
IMISCOE’s annual conferences are among the largest and most significant gatherings of migration-researchers. IMISCOE’s annual conferences are organised since 2004 and become increasingly popular and grow accordingly, thereby extending their reach each year. Last year, about 800 migration scholars and practitioners attended the annual conference. This was the highest amount of participants – until now, as the Luxembourg Conference has almost doubled the amount of participants this year!
About the conference theme
In line with the theme Crossing borders, connecting cultures, the IMISCOE 2021 online conference will zoom deeper into people’s migration experiences by foregrounding how migration is connected to culture and language. At this conference, we intend to explore the nexus of migration, and culture in more depth by asking how migration is lived, experienced, mediated, and reflected in general and through everyday cultural, linguistic and artistic practice. We are interested in deepening our understanding of the complexity and diversity of migration experiences on the one hand, and the possibilities of connecting different migrant experiences and groups of people on the other. In light of the recent developments, we extend our focus and also concentrate on inequalities in general and on health and racial in equalities in particular.
